The first neighborhood BBQ went very well. We had about 40 people show up; tons of existing friends—which helped bring out some of our neighbors—and 4 households that showed up.

One of the more interesting things was a comment made by my neighbor, Dick, who has lived in his house since 1956 (he was the first one on the block). He mentioned that after having been there for over 50 years, this was the first time he’d seen so many people from the neighborhood hanging out together, and thought it was overdue.

I’m really excited for the summer as the weather gets nicer and more people feel comfortable leaving their houses and joining us for some good food.

Oh, if you don’t think that wet, green grass can catch on fire, you’d be wrong. We had moved my new fire pit to the front, everyone (except my wife) said it would be fine being off the ground as far as it is and with the grass being as wet and green as it was. But, right at the end, when it was just my neighbor and I we were proved wrong.

Jay, who lives right next to me, noticed a bit of the grass was singed, and oh look, it’s kind of smoking. So I decided to grab the hose just in case. As I turned around I heard Jay say, “and now it’s on fire”. As I was cutting the ties of my brand new hose, Jay was laughing. I unwrapped it, connected it to the faucet, and turned around in time to see it starting to consume more of my yard. Fortunately, Jay was laughing at me harder, so I was able to spray the fire out all the way.

Everybody says it’ll grow back. I’m buying grass seed tonight because my wife says it won’t.
