dear so-and-so,
i spent the evening with friends, i have been sitting at the computer night after night just listening to music, and tonight i realized that i was tired of that. so i got up and drove down town to see some friends who just moved in to a new apartment (nicole, lydia, and joel). it was good to just sit and talk with them like i’m the forth person, not just three of them and one of me. . . but i see the relationship joel and lydia have and am, to speak the truth, envious. they are ‘together’ but i’ve never seen them really show physical affection, an occasional hand holding, but nothing more than that. yet, she is his, and him her’s, if that makes sense. they seem like friends. upon my departure (around 1 or so) i walked to my car and on the way ran into a guy who i sort of know that had just gotten out of jail because of the protest that happened in downtown today, and we chatted for a minute or so–i don’t know his name, he told me once, but i don’t feel bad because when we first met, he was stoned off his hind quarters and doesn’t remember the meeting–but after we departed and i made my way to my car and started driving, i rolled my window down and just drove and listened to music. when i got to sellwood i was singing, when i got on the milwaukie expressway the singing had stopped both by me and the artist, but there was still music and something hit me, i don’t know what it was, but i realized for the first time, that music is the overhead of my life. i have a soundtrack, and rarely does that sound track happen to coincide with the way i am feeling, but the air, and the drive and the music combined just all clicked, it will never be able to be reproduced. all i can say, though, is that even though i have done away with dating, i still want someone i could call up and talk to, either on the phone or in a coffee shop for hours without getting bored of the topics. or just go on a long drive where nothing is said at all, and everything is understood. i realized it is 2:15 and so i will stop this letter, and regretfully send it.
adam.
