So, you and your wife have two kids, you just found out you’re having a third. You both have been driving small sedans and realize that you need to, around the time the 3rd comes, buy a van or something. You figure out how you can do it, putting money away, waiting for the huge kick back you get in taxes (around 3 grand btw) figuring that in April or May when all that happens, you’ll have enough to put down on a used van that you can afford. That same day, the car that your wife uses to drive the present kids in blows up. You can
A) scrap it, and go down to one car or
B) ask your father-in-law for a small loan for a few weeks/months to pay for repairs on a car you’re going to trade in anyway in a few months (after he forgave a $3k loan just a few weeks ago).
There are plenty of pros and cons to each side, but the big selling points for each are as follows;
Option
A; one car makes it really difficult (1.5-2 hr bus ride) for you to get to work), or for your wife to get to the dr.’s
Option
B; you put money into a car that you’re going to trade in, but the money you put in won’t matter a whole bunch on the amount you get in trade.
What do you do?
