many artists have written about saturday, from elton john saying “saturday night’s alright for fightin’” to chicago spending saturday in the park, to damien jurado singing [COPYRIGHTED LYRICS OMITTED — “Saturday” by Damien Jurado — manual review required] but the one thing i would write about, if i could write music, is satuday is the day i realize i don’t live alone anymore. my sister, who is still in high school (three more weeks), is a big drama freak (as was i), the only problem is, she doesn’t have a backstage voice. she’s good onstage, every one can hear her, but off stage every one can hear her. on mornings when everyone is home–mother, father, sister–i get no sleep. i work late nights, and then stay up late anyway, so i sleep until noon or so, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. except on saturday, that’s when i wake up to yelling through the house, blowdryers, music (usually something my sister has stolen from me), lound grinding sounds in the kitchen, but so far, invariably, i have awoke each saturday the last four months sooner than i would like, and thus, making my day a day spent with out sleep. three more months.
