if i could fill your heart just once

at three o’clock the sun is already ducking behind the houses on the opposite side of the culdesac. jeremy crooning about the television girl. i walk out to get the mail. nothing. i come in to check my electronic version of the same. nothing. it’s cold in the house and feels empty. i love this feeling. winter has set in and it feels great. frost covers the ground in the mornings. the crisp, electric air sends kids bundled home to warm rooms. maybe for the winter i will grow a beard.
