hell comes by day, too

in the latter part of sleep you hear things that happen in the real world. like phone rings. but the fail to register. this morning, as i lay in bed still asleep, the phone rang. my dad answered it and seconds later was telling me to wake up because i was late for work. apparently the phone conversation went something like this.
dad. hello.
answer. hi. is adam there?
dad. yeah, but he’s still in bed.
response. would you mind waking him up. he’s supposed to be at work ten minutes ago.
dad. sure thing.

it was kimmy. one of my shift supervisors. nice girl. wasn’t mad or anything. i made it to work in 20 minutes from the time i bolted upright in bed. what had happened was the closing the night before made me sleep right through my properly set alarm. i didn’t get in trouble or anything. i was just frazzled the rest of the day. in the latter part of sleep you don’t hear things that happen in the real world. like alarm clocks.

adam.
