Dotty Battles the Rota-monster

Monday night I came home after work to a sick daughter. She'd been pretty down most of the day and was ready for bed at 5:45 (almost 2 hours before bedtime). I was kind of starting to feel ill around that time to and so went to bed with some NyQuil.

When we woke up, both of us just crashed, I on the couch, she on the floor. Heidi and I figured we'd let her sleep as much as she needed and instead of taking her to her bed every couple of hours we made a little bed for her on the floor. She stayed there through Tuesday and pretty much all day Wednesday. I had started to notice that she was looking dehydrated around 4 on Wednesday. By 5 we had talked to the doctor who suggested, strongly that we take her to the ER to see what was going on.

We were waiting in the ER waiting room within 20 minutes. We had our triage and were sent back to the waiting room. We waited and waited and waited. All told I think it was around 2 hours just in the lobby. After we got a room the doctor came in, they took some blood, put her on an IV, took some urine, took more blood, took some poo, took more blood, then sent us home once she was hydrated with little to go on other than to keep fluids in her. We were there for about 8 hours.

Thursday morning. Oh yeah, I was sick. My body had forgotten all about itself and focused on Dotty and taking care of Heidi (migraine). But after a good night's sleep, it remembered that it was sick and crashed. But we still needed to take Dorothy to her doctor's office for a follow-up. This is when we found out that she's got Rotavirus. It sounds a bit more scary than it is considering that pretty much every kid gets it at some point in their life.

So now, Dotty is resting. She hasn't wanted much to drink which gave the doctor a bit of an alarm telling us to go the the hospital again if she still hasn't had anything tonight. So right now we're just playing the waiting game to see if she'll take some fluids. We made some Pedialyte type drink and she still won't take any.

My parents are going to be in town, so they'll distract Evelyn so that she has enough attention given to her and so that Dorothy can rest.
